Another simple solution: let the user stretch the slider, changing the step size. By the way, Florian has a very good point that axes are not always linear.2 -

I’ve never heard anyone complaining about color pickers faking choice by giving 1 px steps which look identical: #0500FE is indistinguishable from #0500FF, but I haven’t seen anyone asking to ban one…2 -

I think 2 is a more correct thing to do. Option 1 sort of changes the em in UPM and then the user will have to compensate that by using a smaller font size or taller line spacing and option 2 already…3
